[PCB_FORUM] Re: Cadence set-up question

I am sure you are going to get lots of suggestions for this. I am working with
a Library that has been growing for almost 9 years. It is really important to
set a naming convention in the beginning and document it!
I have looked at the naming convention from IPC and it seems to be more
complicated than necessary. We basically use the type of part; number of pins;
body width; pitch; ma or ia for physical names.
That gives you an
SOI8_15_50ia for 8 pin gullwing; 150 wide body; 50 mil pitch (Inches)
A(standard or first version)

SOj8_15_5ma for 8 pin J lead; 150 wide body; .5 mm pitch (Metric) A(standard or
first version)
        IPC for SOJ: SOJ + Pitch P + Lead Span Nominal X Height - Pin Qty
         (or soj5p4x06-2)
Including the height in the physical name will possibly cause you to have
multiple physicals where everything is the same except the height.

Dennis,

IPC-7351 is the standard for footprint naming; details, free calculators, and
libraries can be found here:
