Todd and Mike,

As far as I can tell there is no Specctra/Auto-route content at all. In
the past there was at least 1/2 day of content for Specctra alone. Did
you receive any auto-route/Specctra abstracts? Did you solicit Cadence
R&D for Specctra papers? In the past APD/package sessions have been
very poorly attended when compared to all other tracks. Based on prior
year's statistics, it seems inefficient to offer so much APD/Package
material as compared with the available PCB sessions. Providing only
one day of content that is directly geared toward PCB designers is
significantly less than what has been available other years. I would
agree that the SI papers that are being presented on Wednesday are
applicable to PCB designers, but in the past there were normally at
least 2 full PCB tracks on Tuesday and Wednesday. The CDNLive schedule
has only 1 pcb track offered each day.

Also, why isn't training being offered on Sunday? Many folks that fly
in like to take advantage of Saturday night stay-over price breaks and
then attend training sessions on Sunday.

Finally, last and definitely least important, what happened to Cadence
Fun Night???? It was my understanding that Cadence Fun Night would be
reinstated with the CDNLive event.

My 2cents.....

Randy Bye

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Re: CDNLive! Conference
Importance: High

All,

I'm a member of the CDNLive! steering committee and helped organize the
schedule you see in front of you.

Ensuring that we had good PCB content compared to last year, and
creating a conference you could justify to your management were our
primary concerns as we put together this year's schedule. Whether we
succeeded is for you to judge, but I can guarantee you we paid a LOT of
attention to it.

There are a few things I'd like to point out, in terms of justifying
attendance at the conference:

- Because the SPB track covers PCB, IC/Package co-design and Signal
Integrity, we've grouped papers so that each day of the conference has a
different focus:

    * Monday is Package/co-design day. The different Package design
papers and the Packaging
      Technical Panel are presented.
    * Tuesday is PCB day. The PCB Technical Panel (Covering Front End,
PCB, Routing & Signal
Integrity) and different papers based on Allegro are presented.
There is a parallel track
(Track 5) Tuesday afternoon, offering Cadence presentations on key
technologies that
attendees can see in-depth demonstrations on at the Cadence
Technology Night that evening.
    * Wednesday is Signal Integrity day, with different papers centered
around board-level SI.

If you're only interested in a specific area, you may not need to attend
all four days of the conference. Of course, that's highly dependent on
your travel situation and what sessions, tutorials and evening evensts
you want to attend - but we did our best to keep topics together to make
the best use of your time.

- Registration this year includes tutorials, which were a cost option
last year.

- Registration is 2-for-1 for a limited time. The current registration
page doesn't make this clear and we are working with Cadence to get that
clarified.

- When selecting papers for the conference this year, we placed an
emphasis on papers that offered tips & techniques that you "could take
back to work and apply". We understand budgets are tight, and you need
things you can bring back to show your management it was worth the time
and expense.

We believe that the program we've outlined is worth the cost, and the
current 2-for-1 registration price of $550 is an even better deal. We
hope than you and your management will agree.

Thanks to all who have pointed out problems with the web site (not being
able to see abstracts, etc). As Mike said, we're working with Cadence
to get that corrected as soon as possible.

Questions and comments are welcome and appreciated,

Todd.
