Hi ,
we use variants although it has its advantages and disadvantages. A good
thing is that for a single schematic you can have multiple BOM options
with different components fitted or not, it also handles different parts
fitted for particular RefDes depending of a BOM. A drawback of using
variants is that they need to be configured when a hierarchical
schematic is finished to access all parts in the hierarchy (does not
apply for flat designs). If you want to reuse a schematic page on other
design then variants will not be passed as they are not assigned to a
schematic page but to a whole design. A part property saying whether the
part is fitted or not is a modest option but more robust.

Anybody have any suggestions on how you do this.
Some may call these DNI or Do Not Place (DNP) lists.
Perhaps variant lists are the best way, but I am looking for
suggestions.
