Yes, I have had direct experience on this one. My previous employer was a start up firm. We were bought by a large company. Cadence would not transfer the licenses. Allegro for sure and I can't remember if we got our View logic licenses from Cadence too. I was told the licenses were not transferable and yes there was some very fine print stating that. If I remember correctly it was on the original license agreement that we signed. I would look very carefully Austin. Our sales rep from Cadence told me I should not worry about it because it wasn't my money and our new owners had plenty of it. I eventually was removed from the loop and the corporate guys got involved. So in all fairness to Cadence I am not sure what the final outcome of this transfer fee was. -----Original Message----- From: icu-pcb-forum-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:icu-pcb-forum-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Austin Franklin Sent: Tuesday, August 29, 2006 3:49 PM To: icu-pcb-forum@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Anyone know what Cadence's position is on selling the software to someone else? Has anyone here had any experience with Cadence and their position on selling the software to someone else? My understanding is the (bankruptcy) courts have determined that software is an asset, and can be sold, but they can't force the vendor to provide support/maintenance. Some companies have reasonable transfer policies, but I can't find what Cadence's policy is anywhere. What I find in the EULA seems contradictory, to me anyway. I will ask them, but I was just curious if anyone here already had some information on this.
