For parts that have more than one package type, we add a property in the
part.ptf file called PACK_TYPE.
This allows us to specify which physical for a given part number.
For instance, ttl parts are usually called ttl00 and then have multiple entries
for the different Families F; FC; H, etc.
The PACK_TYPE property allows for two ttl00 parts with different part numbers
and different footprints because each
has a separate line entry.
The same can be done for specifying whether the ALT symbol physical is the
default and whether the JEDEC_TYPE
physical is default.
However, as suggested by someone else, the JEDEC_TYPE property can be added to
a logical part at the schematic level
and then the board designer doesn't have to decide which one the DE wants. To
use the JEDEC_TYPE=altphysical there must
first be both JEDEC_TYPE and ALT_SYMBOL fields in the part.ptf file.

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Alt symbol
Is there a way in Concept to specify which alt symbol to place in Allegro
automatically?
My problem is that in certain cases we want to place a special footprint for
capacitors used in high frequency applications and still keep the same part
number.
Alt symbol seems to be the answer but we don't want the layout designer to have
to decide which symbol to place.
