[PCB_FORUM] Re: Allegro v15.1 Text Editing

Chris,

Well, I don't think you should be editing the ref des text. It is
intelligent text, the same as the assembly designator. Maybe you want to
move and/or rotate it (as Pat described), and frequently change the size of
it: Edit -> Change, Text checked in the Find tab, Text block checked in the
Options tab, then to the right of the Text block set the text block size
then click on the text. To see all of the available text blocks, click
Setup -> Text Sizes...

When I need supplemental silk screen text (as in naming connectors, headers
etc.), I put it on the Board Geometry/Silkscreen_Top class/subclass, then
make sure it ends up in the film description for the top silk. There are
icons for both Add Text and Text Edit, or use the menus Add -> Text and
Edit -> Text (when you're adding text, just set the Active Class and
Subclass in the Options tab).

Good luck!

Being an old OrCad Layout user...how does one select text for the purposes
of placement
and rotation. This procedure is important from the standpoint of
manufacturing. It appears
that Allegro PCB Editor, as compared with OrCad Layout, does not have a
text editor function
with respect to existing silkscreen text (i.e., reference designators).

Perhaps I am confused...simple question, but need a simple answer.
