Les,
Here is kinda what I would do..
Assuming netlist and all symbols built.
Place > Quickplace
Then you can manually decide Top or Bottom parts.
Delete the back side, tiny parts, etc.
Move large top parts into the board.
Run Quickplace again with bottom checked.
Move back side parts into board outline.
If all parts are built and present, you can get a
feel for a medium large board (4000 Total part) in
about 30-45 min.
With a BOM and no netlist. I draw boxes with a line
and copy them around. Real rough idea.
