[PCB_FORUM] Re: Allegro 0402 footprint for under a 1mm BGA?

Sorry then. You have done your homework and
I will step out of the way.
As before, good luck.

Hi Kevin,

I still stand by my first comment.
Let the cm know what you are trying to accomplish and
see if they can find the solution that both of
you can work with. If they cannot then, in my opinion,
you should go with what they say. If not there
could be much suffering. Especially with something
like an 0402 which could have hundreds of landing sites.
If you reduce the chances of hitting or increase the
chances of tombstoning by even 1% that could be
very costly.

I’ve used 0402s under BGAs for quite a few designs (with another PCB layout
tool), with no problem, and with different CMs. Though I appreciate your
input, I though I made it clear that I have the CM aspect of the issue well
in hand. I’ve been interfacing with CMs for some 25+ years and am more than
able to handle that.

I was simply asking for other peoples inputs as to what they use (or have
seen, or what has worked for them) for footprints in this specific
situation. I have “input” (and even some well done write-ups) from three
tier 1 CMs already. That does not mean that their answer is the only
answer, and they fully understand that.
