Reboot is kind of like rebooting your pc, reset is a bit harsher and is kind 
of like control alt delete used to be which would force a restart when
something was locked up but different in that it also requires a time reset. 

reflash is a rollback to the currently factory flashed set of the unit in
this case, I think it would be 1.1 even though you may have received your
unit before 1.1 because the reflash now uses the extra partition to restore 
the firmware.

The reason to avoid taking out the batery if at all possible is that reset
and reflash and restart all are controlled meltdowns and yanking out the
battery is kind of like pulling the plug on a pc in that if the hd is doing 
something, you could foul it.

Perhaps it has been discussed before; but will someone please explain the
effect  the various means of going to square one on the Braille Plus?
What is the  difference a reset, a quick reset,a reboot, and a reflash?
Why should one hesitate to remove the battery. In so many of the electronic 
gadgets I have removing the battery is a quick fix.

The consol should be touched if you know linux shell commands.

You should never have to take the battery out, but just in case you do,
make sure that the icon is unplugged.
Try a reboot before a reset by pressing star, pound, and program one. Then try a short reset, meaning that you press it down quickly. If that doesn't work, hold reset for about five seconds and let go. If that fails, back up 
all your settings and attempt a reflash.

This is console related stuff and probably shouldn't have been allowed
here.
the console is not supported by LevelStar or APH, so these commands are
not
anything you should know about if you're not using the console to operate 
your unit.  For those of you who use the console, this is the exact

we do not allow discussion of it on this list--it causes confusion for
those
who are just using the Icon/Braille + software.  Please try to address
these
things on the tech list, or if someone has a question regarding the
console
that you think you want to answer, please address it off list.

I had something similar with my Icon a while back. I was able to fix it
by
remounting my
hard drive from the console. I believe the process went something like:
umount /media/hdd
mount /media/hdd -o rw

I may have needed to put the /dev location in before "/media/hdd", but
I
can't recall for
sure. After you do this, if disc drive mode works, you might need to do
a
checkdisk command if
you're using Windows, or on the Icon itself use fsck, though I don't
completely
recall the exact fsck syntax for this.

In my earlier message about this problem I should have said that I'd
done a reboot and reset, which failed to fix things.
I am a moderately experienced Linux user, and my suspicion is that the 
hard drive is not mounting correctly.
I would hope I don't need to send this unit back in. I literally just 
got it back from APH today after a bout with hardware issues.  I was
