numpad works on usb keyboards for me.

Speakup works great in the linux shell. I recommend using an external
usb keyboard so you can use the num pad to poke around the screen as
you
would in linux. The speakup navigation keys work the same as they
do on
a typical linux distro. The responsivness is excellent.
