If that is really the case, If I were to speculate, i might guess that had something to do with formatting the rescue partition, but I really would be speculating as I didn't provide support for the update process, and really don't know. But I am very positive about Pound being used to reflash Icons using the rescue partition, as that, I had to document, so verified by doing it.
