[icon-discuss] Re: Issues with 1.1, think I might not update

There will be patches for any bugs that come out. APH and Levelstar know of
the current bugs, and have currently issued another beta cycle to test
solutions to insure that these bugs are removed and that the system is as
stable as possible. I am a beta tester and I can tell you that APH and
Levelstar listen to those of us who put these units through the mill to insure
that our customers get a product that is stable. I will remind you that even
with the bugs, these units continue to be stable enough that a person can do a
reset and usually bring the unit to life without having to send it back to APH
and Levelstar for a major software installation. How many times have we heard
that someone's notetaker has crashed and that they have to send it back for an
expensive reinstall of the software. That's not happening with these units.
You can press a button and reset the unit yourself, and we're working hard to
insure that you don't have to hit that button very often.

APH and Levelstar also recognize that customers want to see releases and that
we want them to continue to see new things from their units. Adding NLS
support was something major that the developers wanted to get out to the users,
so it was decided that a release would be issued, with "some" known bugs, but
people could begin listening to their NLS books. Another beta cycle, which is
where we are now, would be issued to clean up the known issues in 1.1. You will
miss out on a lot if you don't keep your unit up-to-date and in some cases, you
make it very difficult for us to help you with future issues because some areas
of the software have been through some major chabnges, the media player for
example, and the way your unit is now isn't valid for what our tech-support
people are being told to solve your problems.

hello,
since its acknowledged that the latest version for the icon and braille plus
has bugs, is there any thought of a patch in the enar future to address some of
them? thanks.

The response time has been improved in 1.1 and lots of bugs have been cleaned
out of the software. Why would you not update, this would be like not choosing
to run Windows XP and staying with Windows 98 or 95? Even Windows XP has bugs,
but overall, the system is better than previous versions. Same holds true for
the Braille+ and iCon software, there are "some" known issues, but overall, the
system software is much faster and there are better things everywhere. Please,
update your unit and take advantage of everything this notetaker has to offer.
NLS books and audible support will not be available until you update.

Hi. When I receive my unit (hopefuly soon as this is driving me
bonkers), I don't know if I should update to 1.1. People are
reporting lots of bugs here that really make using the braille+
difficult. Filesharing I don't really mind not having--I don't
think I'd use it much--but for example the issue Paul was having,
with the applications taking a millennium to respond, or what
most people are having with the news-stand or whatever. I
suppose I probbably have to update--hopefuly APH has sent my unit
back as it still hasn't arrived so I don't know--but, is it worth
the update? I meaar despite the bugs, is it worth it?
