[icon-discuss] Re: File sharing question

As someone who has worked with computers for the last 30 years, I can't see any good reason to share an entire drive. In addition to being a bad security risk, I see it as a lazy way out of taking the time to be selective about what folders you share. If it were an option, it would create nightmares for Tech Support as they tried to handle all the complaints from people who had shot themselves in the foot, or had it done for them by someone else on their networks.

It is as steve suggests: Security reasons. There are lots of system files on the hard drive, and if you are sharing, and happen to connect to an open netwowrk... well the possibilities for trouble are endless. We absolutely do not recommend it for any reason, ans so do not even give you the option. Of course, someone who is a more advanced user like yourself may find a way around it, but that will be at your own risk. It might seem to be an easy all encompassing sharing solution to share the drive, but if you think about it, the only places you can copy files are the Library folder, Music folder, packages folder, and folders of your own creation.
