Many sighted people think it is a phone too, although they all understand
when I tell them it is a PDA without a screen.
I never use my shoulder strap as I think it is too awkward when it is
strapped to the ring. It is hard to type on it when it is on, and the
strap
really isn't too functional, in my opinion. As a matter off fact, I think
the case is way too out dated looking. Sure, it may offer some protection
but it doesn't look modern compared to everyone else carrying around their
PDA's. When the think is taken out of the case it looks much more stylish.
I
would strongly suggest that the makers redesign the case in the future. I
wouldn't mind a hard case that contains a flip top closure to protect the
buttons. With a flip top cover we couldn't need to use the keyboard lock
key
so much either!
Good luck finding yours. I know what you mean about keeping your whole
life
in the thing. We get so comfortable using it and get totally lost when it
is
not around, or working well.

Also, giving a guess about the size might help and that there is a large
phone number pad on it with a remote control like up/down left/right arrow
key.
Did yours not come with the shoulder strap?
That would be a drag if someone walked off with it thinking it was cool
looking.

Is there anything on an Icon that identifies it as such? Also, if
you had to describe it to someone sighted in 5 words or less, how would
you manage it? Despite all my best intensions mine disappeared last night
and I've been trying to ask around about it...no one's seen it and I'm
worried I might be describing it wrong. Is "PDA without a screen" a
reasonable description or should I take a different tack? And some advice
as a result of this:
1) Back up daily. You never know when you might need a contact and can't
get to your icon (e.g. dead battery or disappearance.)
2) Identify the Icon as yours; put a label somewhere in/on the case with
contact info etc.
I swear if I do find the thing I'm making a neck rope for it...too much of
my life is in that thing.
