The Star probably read regardless, because it was in such an unusual place, it probably thought you needed to know regardless, I'm not really sure about that one. However, i can tell you, that if you need a punctuation mark back in a certain level, you simply go back to the edit box for that punctuation level and type it back in.

Yes. First, you can control the level of punctuation spoken by useing Pound+ Program 1. If you want everything spoken at a given level but that problem equal sign, you can go to the Settings Menu, and choose speech settings. From the Speech settings Dialog, press the Menu key and choose 2 for customize punctuation settings.
