[huskerlug] wmv files

This is kind of obvious and goes without saying; also why I installed
Windows XP and made the system dual-boot. Although, it is a
consideration that people *do* make a difference. Students can voice
their opinions to an institution, while in the mean time coping with
such undesirable policies. Maybe it is not so much a policy but just an
example of bad I.T. Everything on 'blackboard' (the web system) could
have been created with w3c standards. But it is important to note that
while the policy of supporting only Microsoft is one I disagree with for
reasons based on logic and common sense, I will certainly do what is
necessary to facilitate my use of their system and compliance with the
necessary requirements.

I have installed all of the "windows updates" available for Microsoft
Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Media Player and I am still unable to
view these wmv files. This is a fresh install of Windows XP, with all
of the Microsoft updates.

The Internet Explorer issues seem to be resolved. Thank you for the
advice.

These wmv files I am not able to play on my XP machine wouldn't work on
another Windows 98 machine I tried them on. I am waiting for a response
from University support on the issue.

Someone mentioned wmv version 9 not being supported by mplayer either.
I like mplayer and use it on my system, along with xmms.
I am not sure what version of wmv files these are. Is there a way to
tell? Is there a header that is viewable in a hexeditor?

Thank you Husker-LUG!
