IIRC, it can use dump or tar.  Since dump is known to have issues, I'd stick 
with tar.  I would be surprised if the tar in Suse 9.0 didn't support files 
over 2GB. 

Another utility you and others may be interested in is "star".  I haven't used 
it much myself, but I've read good things about if.  IIRC, both Open & 
FreeBSD use star instead of tar.  It has native support for extended file 
system attributes and acls.
