[huskerlug] Vector Linux SOHO 3.2 (review?)

Ok,
So I noticed that I had enough junk laying around the house to build a
toy/test station.
System Specs: (See below)

I decided to play with the machine by trying out some various old
distros and some new versions of distros I haven't tried in awhile. As
some of you might recall I was very much in love with Vector Linux,
which was a smaller distro aimed at older hardware. I went to
Linuxiso.org and downloaded the latest version. SOHO 3.2

The SOHO and the 660 meg download should have warned me, this isn't your
old pal Vector Linux. This distro was built to be a 'workstation' ready
distro.

Pros: Nice looking, full featured, no trouble with any of my hardware.
XCdroast had no trouble 'backing up' an audio cd. nice. Automatic
IPTables Firewall which the machine very stealthy. I can't scan it from
my other workstation using nmap. (I didn't try anything more
complicated.)
KDE 3.1, OpenOffice 1.03, phoenix web browser...yadda yadda
yadda...

Cons: The distro has lost its small foot print. 1.5 gig installed
Not much different or more featured than KNOPPIX.
Installation was...antiquated. I felt like I was installing
RedHat 5.0, not a modern distro. It also took WAY TO LONG. It took
close to 1 hour to fully install. Mandrake 9.0 takes about 30 minutes
on this hardware with similar packages.
Didn't allow me to set mount points during installation, so the
partition I had created for user space wasn't mount automagically
(minor, but annoying none the less).

Maybe I should have downloaded and taken a look at the "small" vector
Linux. Overall I was disappointed in the demise of this once unique
distro..

I'm going to retry Peanut Linux next. I grew impatient with RH4.2, but
that's in the back queue for later (RH4.2 had no idea what net card was
installed and it had trouble with the harddrive not being the first
master, /dev/hda).

System Specs:
Celeron 300a overclocked to 450
448 Megs of Ram
6 Gig HD
Mach 64 video card
netcard
52x cdrom
52x cdrw
etc...
