Part of the problem is that you are looking for the RPM in the wrong
place.  There is a place where the updated RPMS are located.  My
favourite link is this:
http://mirrors.kernel.org/redhat/redhat/linux/updates/9/en/os/
Here you will find the RPMS depending on your architecture.  Although
most are in the i383 directory, costumized kernels and libs are in the
appropriate atchitecture.  Download both up2date RPMS (the gnome one as
well) and "rpm -Uvh up2date*" and that should fix all your troubles.
I'm not a big fan of forsing RPMS because everytime I tried I broke
something and had to reinstall.
