What that error is telling you is up2date-gnome depends on up2date 
3.1.23 and updating up2date may break up2date-gnome. 

*I*  would just "force" it.  --force, but that's just me.  This may 
cause some troubles, but I doubt it (since this isn't a major upgrade of 
up2date)...
