[huskerlug] Re: Size of pipe to your house

Not really...and don't let the ISP hear that or they'd figure away to =
charge
for it :-)

It's just a figurative way to look at it. Think if they didn't compress =
the
files?

Where this all stems from was when I was running a Unreal Tournament =
server
with Redirection, Basically it allows players to download maps on the =
fly
from a different system other than the server via http. Before I =
compressed
using ucc compression (Unreal's own compressor) I was using several gigs =
of
space and moving several Gigs of BW a day. At maximum each player could
have to Download 250M to play (lots of mods and custom maps). Later I =
went
to compressed files. #1 it lowered my disk space usage by 50%, #2 It
lowered the BW need per player, 250M went to 75M, #3 it sped it up for =
the
players they were able to download "faster"=20

So, when I download knoppix ISO which is 733Mb but
represents a compressed 2.3Gb of stuff, I am tripling
my bandwidth? So, the definition of bandwidth
includes BOTH data per second, and actual information
per second, when that data is a compressed form?
=20
