I agree.  For a firewall, I've used Debian Woody with 2.4.15=20
kernel on a 486 firewall with 8 megs of ram.  Only started to=20
have problems when I started running caching dns, dhcp server,=20
and added an additional 1000 connection tracking entries for the=20
iptables stateful packet watching.  The box is still sitting=20
under the counter for backup should my replacement P133 firewall=20
kick out.  The install was tiresome - had to use the floppies -=20
but the rest was a sinch when I did the rest through apt-get.
