In fact, if I don't want to hear from some noo= b=20 who wants me to recommend a Linux distro I always recommend PCLinuxOS,=20 because it is so easy to install, use and maintain. It does get in the way= =20 of power use, however, but noobs rarely rise to that level. > I suppose what I grip about=20 > --and I shouldn't at all!--is that it doesn't work like SuSE. =A0I have > gotten use to some of it's peculiarities, that is, what makes it different > from SuSE, I'm not displeased with the way it works. =A0Since it's one 3 > distros I have on hard-drive, I can pick and choose. =A0It does seem to b= e a > reliable OS, and I wouldn't discourage anyone in trying it out and using > it. I experienced the same phenomena. I used SUSE exclusively=20 Mandrake was a pain, for a while. When I tried KNOPPIX is was like I neve= r=20 knew Linux at all, for a while. Originally SUSE's YAST was console based,= =20 and having come from RH 5.0 I was more familiar with command line Linux=20 configurations. But, as YAST became YAST2 (graphical) and its ability to=20 manage SUSE improved to the "point and click" I also began using the comman= d=20 line less and less. IMO, PCLinuxOS is the pennicle of P&C Linux=20 maintanence, but MEPIS is getting there. The are two reasons why I like=20 MEPIS: =20 1) Debian based app packages (deb) which I've come to prefer over rpm=20 packages,=20 2) the size of the repository and the ease with which apps are added or=20 removed from your installation,=20 3) the ease of upgrading a release to the next release (so far...) > > SuSE 10.2 alpha (10.1 has some bugs in it) is something I'm going to try > out on a 64 bit computer, except I got to get that put together. It's slow in doing it. I'm concerned that Novell is going down the tubes. Messman had no faith in= =20 Linux and never had a clue about it or the GPL. Hovsepian, the new CEO,=20 made a totally ridiculus statement last fall when he was hired as a COO,=20 which showed he knew absolutely nothing about that state SUSE/NetWare was i= n,=20 or even if there was a Linux based NetWare in the works. His statement wou= ld=20 have made sense THREE years ago, when Novell bought SUSE, but now it means= =20 either that he is clueless, or that Novell has done NOTHING with merging=20 NetWare, Linux, services and single point login together. Either way it=20 spells trouble for Novell. GreyGeek ---- Husker Linux Users Group mailing list To unsubscribe, send a message to huskerlug-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with a subject of UNSUBSCRIBE
