One 'urban legend' type of thing that I ran across and have used (with
blind faith)....
Once in a while you'll have a hard drive that can't seem to find its
place on a drive. As a last resort place the drive in a zip lock bag
and get as much of the air out as possible to eliminate condesation..
Place it in the freezer for about 12 hours.. somehow the cold makes
the platters more dense and possibly will help it find its track. then
immediately throw it in another computer and start dumping data to a
good drive.
I found this in a "100 Ways to Rescue a Hard Drive" article.
On a lighter more off the subject note:
There was this time my sister downloaded a movie on Kazaa...when she got
done watching it, the phone rang, 7 days later she was dead. The
security camera captured some freaky girl crawling out of the cable
modem and killed her... if only she had written a script to backup the
shared folder's contents to another computer...tsk tsk tsk.
