when all is said, in all the previous messages, the
fact remains that I have almost 40 computers here, and
atotlal of 8 of them that are running MS account for
ALL the drive failures!  Now, they rest more and are
shut down more hours, than any of the Open Source
systems...

The hard drives are all of the same vintage. the only
difference seems to be that MS silently thrashes them
until they start clacking!

Bug toaster has serial number inputs of crashes, but,
no hardware failure data!  All of these reported
drives are ATA.  So, I jsut haven't found even one
MTBF study involving the OS(es) that was (were)
running when the hard drive(s) broke.  I think we have
a masters thesis area of discovery here.
