[huskerlug] Re: Backups

I use a program called SecondCopy to do automatic backups of my volatile da=
ta automatically to a ZIP disk and copy all non-volatile stuff to CD using =
a program called CopyTo which allows me to automate most of it. The problem=
is that programs scatter setting and INI files all over the hard disk and =
I don't know what's important and what's not. I usually have at least two c=
opies of important stuff, with archives going back a year or so. The proble=
m is not how to do the backup but what to backup.

You can use the archive bit to backup files that have changed, but that wil=
l get you way more junk than stuff that you really need to backup. I suppos=
e that I know how to find the stuff that needs to be backed up by using dat=
e searches, but it's just a mess, and most of that is M$ fault for having p=
oor policies and not enforcing the ones that they do have. Don't even get m=
e started on the stupid installation tricks they pull with their software. =
