[huskerlug] Re: Advice -- RedHat version support(No free lunch!)

After switching from Mandrake to RedHat when RH7.3
came out, and then upgrading to RH8.0, and finally, to
RH9 as soon as each came out, (leapfrogging several
computers, I have dozens of them here), I finally
loaded Knoppix to my hard drives on about four
systems... and am on the latest 09-22-2003
KnoppixV3.3, right now!!!

The lack of hassle to keep 'up to date' is marvelous!
No more Red Hat Network 'surveys' every 60 days!
Downloads are super fast on Debian, also...

I do have purchased retail boxes of many GNU/Linux
distros, and I do appreciate the commercial aspects
that help support the many developers, but, as a
hobbyist, and the neighborhood promoter and advocate
of Open Source software, I do not really want to be
considered a 'commercial' user, while the constant
bombardment of advertisements from Red Hat did become
annoying.

BUT, in Debian, I am having fun with the permissions
for sound, and CDrom burning, as user... everything
came right up as root, in the install...
