I’ve been in hunker-down mode for the last week as my company comes closer to
our merger date & has killed any possibility of extra-curricular activities. I
should have responded sooner.
Y’all gave me a great education & many different opinions to ponder as I get
closer to decision making time on a 2011. I really appreciate the detail many
of you have responded with.
For a guy who just got his LTC 1 year ago to the month, the HSA HHH folks have
been great to me with advice & opinions. I am grateful to all of you willing to
take a n00b under your wing.
Things I sincerely appreciate:
Stewart taking me through all the USPSA safety precautions and range commands
on my first day attending practice as well as lending me his sight pusher &
other general knowledge/advice.
Sean teaching me how to properly pull a trigger (was constantly riding the
reset), what a difference! Not the only thing I learned from him mind you.
Bob & Rob trusting me to help out on the technical stuff. I just really need a
new key organization system now…
Peter being Peter.
Most importantly: Rob talking to Mike about me as potential a member of HSA &
Mike sponsoring my Polack ass (we gotta stick together!).
Finally, I must admit… I knew Sean was a GM in PCC, but I had no Idea he was #1
in the country until I looked it up the other day. Holy crap is that cool!

The biggest difference you will notice shooting a SVI vs STI is the grip.
It’s worth familiarizing yourself with all options from both manufacturers
before making that kind of investment. The Atlas people in VT specialize in
building STI/SVI like guns using third party clone parts (neither frame or
slide comes from either of these two biggies)
If you get a custom SVI built, place a deposit and have the frame transferred
– then send it back for the work. This insulated you from enemy insurgency
from the AGs office as you can legally deal direct with the factory on the
completion.

The STI Edge is the standard, it could benefit from a trigger job out of
the box, or may be fine, depending on how you like things set up. The DVC
has a better trigger out of the box, there is more fitting time put into
them. The DVC comes with a grip that has a 'reduction' (made smaller
around) and an undercut trigger guard. The unmodified Edge grip is slightly
larger around. The magwell that is attached changes how the grip fits your
hand a good deal, so take that into consideration. The DVC has a lightened
slide, not a lite as many custom built guns are made to be, but lighter
than the Edge. Slide weight and overall gun weight are a personal
preference thing, but without shooting several 2011 back to back you may
never notice the difference, never mind notice an advantage one way or the
other. The Apeiro has a sight tracker / Island barrel. Triggers come in
short, medium, and long, curved and flat, its another personal preference
thing and will depend on hand size / finger reach. Mag releases come in
extended and enlarged paddles - watch out for how you grip the gun, mags
will drop out unintentionally if you get the wrong mag release for your
hands.
I am completely happy with my DVC. I have changed out the thumb safetys to
EGW single side non ambi, it is much larger than the STI. I also changed
the magwell to the dawson big mouth.
You are welcome to try mine, I won't be around until next Wed. Try out
as many as you can, and look for the features your want, keeping in mind
many things can be changed out with minor fitting.
Peter's gun has a standard STI grip with the dawson standard magwell, also
has a tri-topped slide, I believe it is a lighter slide than my DVC.
Stew's Edge is tuned by Brazos so it has a very nice trigger, but you can
see how the Edge fits and handles.
Mike has a 6' Eagle, they are not making the eagle line any longer. The
eagles have a bushing barrel. I thinik the Maraurder or the Hex have
bushing barrels.
Bobs or Robs Infinitys are in a different category but are worth checking out

What other factors should I be considering? Y’all know I am a noob (just
started shooting last winter/spring), but may have some money to spend in
the coming month.
To be perfectly honest, I don’t plan to shoot limited at all this year.
Mostly production & potentially a few single stack matches (especially a
classifier). Just trying to stock up on what I need before our state
changes it’s mind again.
