of a sort.
After a fairly interesting few weeks taking care of our "patients", I
have had a chance to return to my Linux projects.
I now have Debian Etch running on my main machine, replacing an old
version of Fedora Core.
So far, I like it.
I hope to bring this machine to our meeting Saturday at the Lakeshore
Library. However, EA and I have discovered that our time is not always
our own. In any case, I hoped that Lee and Don could help me tweak this
installation.
One part that is not working yet is the wireless. Debain has provided
me with a good experience with that so far (and excellent
documentation), but still no joy. It could easily be pilot error.
I had hopes of using this machine to test out my Amateur Radio apps on
Debain Etch using the wireless connection. No wired connection is
available where my gear is located. Frankly, I wanted to avoid a trip
into the attic and fishing CAT5 down the insulated interior wall, but...
My general plan was to prove that the Linux apps would do the job and
then look into purchasing a used small-profile box. I have a spare
display and keyboard - but not much room.
Other than that, everyone is safe and all is relatively good. EA said
that I was so engrossed in the Debain install that I forgot all of the
other issues. $9.95 very well spent at CheapBytes, I guess.

I found them 2yrs ago and have bought over 20 platters from them and not
a flaw so far. I have no interest in the Co but least expensive way to
try out a distro, they have 145 distros available
