Personally, and I am in the minority, I find it just plain silly.

I have had this same argument before, and I am always outvoted in my
position....  however, I stand on course.....

There is no such things as a "crop factor" ( or "conversion factor").....
There is no such thing as trying to communicate different FL to different
formats.....
There is no such thing as comparing oranges to apples  ( format wise).....

There is an angle of view that is comparable and which gives you different
perspectives for different formats......which again, obscures the
comparison......

However, as I said, I get outvoted each time......

I am trained as an Engineer..... and the Laws of Optics are facts that have
very specific meanings....  and I believe, should be used properly.

This digital sensor comparison issues are very incorrect in my opinion.

The conversion factor for 
digital cameras is designed for focal length equivalents in regards to the 
angle of view.  ........ is simpler and easier to understand for most
people.
