He is going to use a digital sensor, which is substantially smaller than
56x56mm film. Other than some limitations, unless things are really at
extremes, there should be no problems.
The mirror is a problem? I would need more convincing to accept this
comment.....remember #1 above......

The problem with this idea is that the camera's lens mount would shade your
sensor/film if the lens isn't centered (i.e.: if you use movements).
Your viewfinder would vignette even more due to the mirror.
