Eric,
Most likely a contact problem.
You can remove the plastic holder that keeps the batteries, clean the contacts
from this unit
to the body and that will in most cases solev the problem.
After longer periods of inactivity these things can happen.
The 553ELX and the 555ELD are very strong and reliable cameras that will alst
forever when treated
with respect and serviced every couple of years.

Subject: [HUG] experience with 553 ELX jams?
Just did a shoot with a 553 ELX for the first time.
Did great until it 'jammed' - push the button. Nada.
Battery- check.
Could take lens off - check. Still nothing.
Fuse - check.
Then it started working again for no reason. Been fine for the last day too.
Anyone with more experience know what could be going on?
Anything I should check.
Previous owner claimed 'it was just CLA'd by Hasselblad'
