[HUG ] Re: bw printer

Franc,

Would you suggest the Canon printer for color as well as B&W? I am currently a
low end HP user and would like to upgrade as well.

Hi,

My recommendation would be the Canon IPF 5100 (17"). Excellent B/W and
Color prints, a lot less bronzing than an Epson and the operating costs are
less than half that of an Epson. Unlike the Epsons you do not have to
change inks for B/W and Color, it has 12 inks installed at one time. Don't
let anyone talk you into the older 5000 as it has different Black inks and
makes a big difference in B/W prints. I owned an Epson 4800 for 18 months
until the head burnt out and epson refused to replace it under warranty so I
replaced it with the Canon IPF 6100(24") and I have found that it is well
worth the extra money. It uses about 1/2 the ink per print and about 1/20th
the ink for maintenance. My epson needed a head cleaning cycle after not
printing for 2 weeks and that used about 15% of each ink cartridge. The
Canon on the other hand didn't need a head cleaning after 3 weeks and 1 time
it stopped mid print to clean the head and continued printing and looking at
the print you could not tell it had stopped plus, it used almost no ink. I
an not a Canon Camera fan (I own Nikon & HB Digital cameras) but this
printer is amazing. Have a closer look at your dealer.

Regards,
Franc
