[HUG] Re: Wooden tripods

Thanks for the reply Jim.

The domain is poly.edu, and my incoming email is automatically forwarded to the server 'duke'. I usually subscribe with the full email address, but this time, in order to save a few words of typing I left out the server name figuring my mails would be redirected. I had neglected to take into account that the HUG server would reject MY emails to the list!

Anyway I've resubscribed with the full address. Hope it works without any further problems., Thanks for the help.

Regards,
Akhil

Carbon fiber hands down. I've borrowed several different wood tripods and found them to be heavy and clumsy.

I've had Gitzos for decades and, in my old age, started to get frustrated with the leg locks as they always turned the leg section above it making you have to really cinch down on the above section lock. A real pain while jockeying cameras, backpack, etc, in the middle of a creek or river - I always end up out there somewhere.

So I got a new Gitzo 6x carbon fiber tripod with G-Locks. I swear, this is one of the best inventions ever! It makes setting-up, adjusting, using a tripod, something that you just do as second nature, rather than having to fight with leg sections. It's almost 'push-button' easy.

If you haven't tried them, try them. You'll be amazed!

Hello Everyone,

At the recent PhotoExpo East I was intrigued by the Berlebach wood tripods.
Do any list members use them? If so, what do you think of them, and if it
came down to choosing between a medium sized Berlebach wood tripod or a
carbon fiber competitor of similar quality, size and, hopefully, price,
which one would you pick, or doesn't it matter? The tripod will be used with
35mm and 6 x 6 cameras - SLRs, mostly.

Comments and suggestions are welcomed. Feel free to mention brand names.

Akhil
