Re: [HUG ] The falling dollar/ photos vs. digipicsThe value any currency
represents has to do with the financial and economic situation
in the country the currency comes from.
The US have developed a massive national dept, the US government is spending
serious amounts
of money it does not have to continue a war that is useless and endless.
Large banks in the US are losing billions of dollars on bad loans.
Those are factors that cause loss of faith in the American economy.

To a certain amount the National Bank in case of the US the Federal Bank can
influence the
value of the USD: They do that by raising or lowering the basic interest rate.

If it were not for the Chinese who have a large export market in the US the
situation would be much more serious.
Chinese banks have bought massive amounts of USD and have lend enormous amounts
of money to American banks and the US government.
In fact without the Chinese the US could well be bankrupt.

Let us hope that the next US president has more basic knowledge of economics
and acts in a more responsible manner.
This president is spending money his grandchildren will have to earn.

I might as well put my two cents on the table. The topic of the sagging
dollar causing Hasselblad to go out of business. I would be more focused on
people thinking that digitals are real photographs. The photo shops around
Visalia do not sell film cameras, they don't have 220 or 120 that is not
expired. The photos in Fresno are only digital printed, I'm trying to find a
lab that does optical printing, not have much luck, Shooting with film is being
nudged over and people do not even get it, I was in a gallery along the coast.
The gallery was photographs taken with with a medium format camera and there
was a man looking at photographs, he was amazed at the colors and detail. But
he was shocked when they told him that the photographer did not use photoshop,
it was shoot with film. He did not know people still did that. The sagging of
the US dollar is more political than economical, the US government likes our
dollar worth less because then other countries will buy our goods. They are
more concerned with making companies more money( you know the trickle down
effect, lol). Hope I did not push anyones buttons, but sometime the truth hurts
lol. But the real question is what is the truth? lol

You might ask the images makers themselves (photographers) as you stand in
front of their prints complaining about which process they use WHY the use the
processes they use to make their prints which are selling for thousands on
reputable gallery walls.
  And bring your prints.
