When those "gnomes of Heidenheim", the Zeiss
Foundation, hived up the former Pentacon concern
upon the reunification of the Germanies, a
factory and a bunch of parts were restored to the
Noble family, a mere shard of the old KW
works. From this, "Sir John" created the Noblex
camera. He forgot to crank into the equation
that he had to replace the parts being used in
the cameras, especially the lenses. Once the
parts ran out, the costs for replacing them was
excessive, and so he went bankrupt.
He really does not seem to have been a very nice or a very realistic person.
Incidentally, the Guthe family got the
photo-processing works in Detroit. Benno
Thorsche founded the Studio City Camera Exchange
in North Hollywood, California, which the family closed down in early 2006.
