[HUG ] Re: Shutter (2008)

Dear Joanne,

My sympathies. Here in Perth, we are recommending two labs as
careful operators - there may be more. In the past I have been unfortunate
enough to encounter two different labs that have done the dirty on me.

One ruined two crucial rolls of film from the garden portion of a
wedding ( I suspect either light struck or crumpled in a roller processor)
and then substituted two rolls of blank film, run through their processor
and sleeved as such. They insisted it was my error, and I was green enough
not to work out what had happened until a year later when they did it again
and casually hinted that it was not the first time....they are long defunct
and not missed at all.

The second lab never hesitated to admit their errors and tried to
correct them with post-processing digital work. But in the end, after losing
several rolls of wedding shots to a bad processor, I concluded that their
operators or machinery were wearing out. So it has proved - they stopped
taking in new work and threw out their roller processor.

In the meantime I have reverted to developing and printing myself,
charging for it, and the results are excellent. Hurry home - we can set you
up with your own darkroom and you can kiss your hand to the commercial labs.

 Uncle Dick
