Why, yes. It is indeed incomprehensible.

Elements of the Biogon are not made of one type of glass. The lens still uses "different kinds of glass for various elements". Always have done, always will.
The glasses used, consequently, do not come "from the same pot".

Perhaps you can give us the original quote.

Meanwhile, the important bit is still that there are only two versions of the 38 mm Biogon: the one on all SW(...) cameras from 1954 upto and including the 903, and the one on the 905. And the difference in performance between the two is very small.
