Yes we do state that "80mm lens on a 6x6 negative is the same as a 50mm
lens?" Frank happens all the time and for good reason.
We do so if we were used to 35mm and we are getting into medium format. As
is often the case.
People need to get their bearings.
They know what they are used to;
And they want to know what they are getting into.
This is human nature and the way the mind works.
We want know what the ANGLE OF VIEW is. Its useful to us.
What does our lens "become" when we use it with a larger or smaller chunk of
film. What medium format is all about.
Or now as is often the case a sensor which is smaller than the film we're
used to.
I'll be used to it as I've had fun already shooting super sides. 4x4 I guess
it is. And figuring out what my lenses do when I do that.
An 80 becomes a nice fast short tele perfect for lots of portrait work more
so than with 6x6.
