Oh but i do understand that.
I was opposing what the rep told you with how i feel about the NC and VC versions of the film. A roundabout way of saying that i think the NC is a perfect film for both indoors and outdoors, flash and [etc.]., while the VC certainly is neither. 

Is the Kodak "Gold" you mentioned the Ektacolor Gold, a.k.a. "GPX"?
I did like that film even better than Portra NC.
