I used some thin coax cable, for no other reason than that I had it lying
around. The cable is approx 2 meters long I think.

Yep, 30 meters if I am not mistaken. The amplifier is reputedly not much
more than 1 or 2 transistors and some resistors.

You could potentially find yourself a radio kit that allows modification
to drive a small relay. Then connect the relay contacts to the EL* camera.
I had my hands on the original Hasselblad radio control. It had a small
defect that I fixed (battery clip wiring was broken in the transmitter).
Apart from that I did not like it, it proved to be unreliable. SOmetimes it
fired the camera, sometimes it did not. Could be that it worked better when
it left the factory in the 1970s. Lacking schematics and adjustment
information (it has tons of adjustable coils in the transmitter) I did not
mess around with it any further.
