Correct.  But, you can also achieve the same results from taking the care to
get the setpoints and tonal curves right in the first place.  You have to do
that to the raw data anyway to get a usable image from it, so you can end up
with the same results either way.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with saving raw scans, or with not saving
them...and doing as I suggest.  It's simply a workflow choice.  The downside
of working with only raw scans, is if you don't save the image file you
already "processed", you have to do the setpoints and tonal curves all over
again every time you want to do something with the image.  Which is, of
course, more work.
