[HUG ] Re: IMG: Triptych

 Bob,

Just got LightRoom... how do you like it? I seems like the adjsutment features
are pretty comprehensive... quite powerful. Does it play well with the scan
.TIF files?

For me, you get the raw scan data; no compression, no interpretation, no
software engineer in upper Yahupitz determining what your image should look
like. You can adjust color temperature, manipulate the histogram a bit easier,
use some tools in Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw not available for a TIFF file.
Also, in years to come there may be additional software that would allow you to
extract even more information from your file; just playing the odds.
So that's my rationale...
I've even played some with scanning negatives. It's weird, you get a negative
and then in Adobe you have to use the "invert" function; boom, out pops the
positive! There is now a setting in Vuescan that you check (in the last tab I
believe) that it is a raw negative and it gives you a raw positive, but I
haven't tried that yet.

Bob

Hi guys,

Could you please elaborate on the benefits of scanning to a raw format as
opposed to 16 (B&W) or 48 (colour) bit tiff?

Thanks!

Stefano
