I think the 'issue' was the glary overcast day, as I have seen it when photographing rainforest here (far more species of trees than at LKP!). It might not look harsh when there, but a sheen is picked up on leaves, rocks etc. It actually looks pretty well controlled in those photos now and it may be just my taste for things to be richer and less 'glary'.
Perhaps there is a tendency for slight oversharpening or other scanning setting to accentuate the glare, but I reckon you're doing a fine job.
I am not sure Velvia is the best in those conditions, rather Provia might soften the edges a bit. But then if the scanning is faintly, faintly accentuating the highlights (or a faintly blue look), then 

I have taken note of all the scanning tips from all!
Of course, if it would help if I can rescue the inbox that Thunderbird spontaneously 'lost' and now claims is not an inbox.

I use 2 of the actions; one is a capture sharpener which I right after opening the .dng file in CS3. Nice to see some trees and a bit of nature coming back! Good shots too.

There is a bit of contrast in some of the colour ones...I guess the
combination of Velvia and Zeiss and some glare from the bright overcast
sky. I have seen that myself (a pol filter cuts it back off leaves etc).

Or is it a scanning thing? I have just got a Nikon 8000 to start using
soon, but the first scans do seem a bit contrasty (like a slide dupe in
the old days).

Any comments or tips?

Do you use the glass holder?
