[HUG ] Re: [HUG] Re: Epson V700 vs V750

Hi all,

I 'll give you here some of my experience with V700 that I use regularly now from 3.2006.

It is a great cheap scanner, especially for MF. The only correction you have to make to produce top sharp scans is to put film holder adjusters to max height (3.5mm, symbolized by a+). This is because films must have their argentic side facing up (Sensors are on the top cover of the scanner) and films tend to naturally curle DOWN in this case.

I made test by putting film face down, but you get in this case diffraction problems on fine details, because light goes through entire film thickness.

V750 is maybe even better in details rendition because of a better scanning lens, but never had the chance to test it.

Anyway, here is links to my blog pages showing an example of a hassy scan made with this scanner and the workflow I used.

I understand the results from those two scanners are quite good. Though reviews suggest it's not a huge improvement over the 4990, which is one I use. Email me privately and I'll be happy to show you a scan done at 2400 dpi on a Rollei SL66 image shot with a 80 Planar lens that will blow your socks off. I can email you both a JPEG screen size of the image scan and a 100% full res view of a portion showing the sharpness and resolution. Can a Nikon 9000 do better? Of course but for printing up to 20x20 or so the 4990 does a darn good job for the price. And being one generation back from the V700 and 750 they can be had for a song.

Dr. Rob,

I have a V700 and I am quite happy with it. the only comment I have is that you should buy the Better Scanning MF film holder, It's well worth the money
and greatly improves the scan quality. www.betterscanning.com
