One day Jim Brick and I were out shooting Pt. Lobos. I think Jim had his 4x5
going, or maybe his Rollei, and some fellow walks up with his new Nikon D3 and
some zoom lens mounted. This guy was occasionally bending over and taking
photos of the tide pools or rocks. Jim was close enough to overhear our
conversation; the fellow was telling me how he didn't need his tripod anymore
because his lenses had vibration reduction.
Jim and I have chuckled over this many times, but perhaps we were a bit
premature?

(bottom line, I think: SLR with VR better than hand held rangefinder but not
better than tripod)
Interesting read, nonetheless.
