I could use big gels.. But remember this lens has a 180 degree field of
views ( I think that is right, corner to corner) so keeping the fingers or
whatever is holding the filter out of the picture is pretty hard...

If you try to bend the filter gel around the front of the lens, the problem
is not so much the distortion caused by the bends of gel material, but more
likely the reflections of the light hitting those bent areas and causing
flare...

Now what I could do is to use gels on the BACK of the lens..I did this with
a Nikonos lens I had.. You apply a tiny amount of Vaseline to the back of
the lens' rear retaining ring, then gently apply the filter to that
Vaseline.. The Vaseline holds the filter in place. But it is messy, to say
the least ( the Nikonos had the filter semi permanently applied, so it was
no problem.)

Frank,

Since the clear filter is there and giving you an optically correct image,
could you just use the other filters via a filter holder on the front of the
lens when needed?
