There is a huge market for adapters that fit Leica or Zeiss lenses onto Canon
DSLR's. Evidently, Canon lenses tend to struggle with edge-to-edge sharpness,
especially in the bread-and-butter wide to medium-tele range.

A very successful professional that I know has sold all of her Canon L lenses
and replaced them with Leica primes, even though the Leica's are more expensive
than the Canon L's, and she is limited to stop-down metering and manual focus.

She ran back-to-back tests and came to the conclusion that only a very few
select lenses can produce consistently good images on the 16MP Canon, and none
of these are made by Canon (to be fair, she doesn't use any long tele's, which
are apparently Canon's forte).

I've known this photographer for a long time, and can tell you that she is not
the least bit emotional about equipment. Her decision was based purely on a
cost/benefit analysis, and she was really hoping that the Canon lenses would be
good enough (since they are cheaper and more convenient). She never used any
Leica film-based SLR's either, so it's not like she was trying to reuse lenses
that she already owned.

As far as seeing the proof is concerned, you could do a simple web search and
get tens of thousands of hits. The problem with this is that the web is a
terrible place to judge image quality. You really need to look at large prints.

I suggest that you either run tests for yourself, or ask local professionals
that use the 1dsMk2. I suspect that a large percentage of these will have
reached the same conclusion.
