[HUG ] Re: Cleaning the Mirror

I have used this technique on my Hasselblads and Nikon SLRs since the mid
70s and have never had a problem with the mirrors or their mechanisms on any
of those cameras.

To convince the skeptics, I have just e-mailed Ernst Wildi for confirmation
and will post his reply on this list.

Hey... Adler has two (2) Hasselblads. He can practice on the one that he
doesn't ever use... Especially since it's a, and to quote boB, lowly
insignificant useless menial 501!

BTW, you cannot see stuff on your mirror unless it's a huge blob blocking
all light. Bits & pieces and overall light grunge is totally un-seeable.
This is one reason that none of the Hass books talk about mirror cleaning,
other than to say 'don't'.

I believe that a call to Hasselblad service in NJ would remedy this once and
for all, and you can post what they say. You don't have anything to do while
at work anyway, so call NJ on the taxpayer's dime... (just kidding - use
your cell phone, 973-227-7320). Anyway, it would be interesting to hear what
the Hass repair folks say. My Alpa instruction book says to have the mirror
cleaned by an authorized Alpa repair station. Basically saying that touching
your mirror inappropriately will cause permanent damage!

Since Tim @ KSP managed to remove that glob of grunge that was eating a hole
in the front surface of your 40 FLE CFE, maybe he also has the magic to
clean your mirror...

Practice on your Buddy's Blad first, then your own?

Cleaning first surface mirrors with collodion isn't that hard
but, yes, considering you are playing with the innards of your 'Blad, it is
a good idea to practice on something else first.
