[HUG] Re: C41 film advice for the Hasselblad

Uncle Dick,

Kodak recently reformulated the Portra series, and the new version (160, at
least - haven't tried 400 yet) seems to be much finer grained than the previous
one. Have you had a chance to try it? I have my negatives processed by a lab,
so I'm no help with C-41 alchemy - sorry.....

Merry Christmas!

Bill

Subject: [HUG] C41 film advice for the Hasselblad

  Dear Friends,

This may seem a basic question but up to now I have not really
considered it. Please lend me your thoughts.

I shoot Kodak Porta films in the Hasselblad system – 160 NC and
400 NC as well as the VC versions. I develop the films very successfully in a
Jobo machine using standard Fuji or Kodak chemistry – so far so boring. But
what can I do to get negatives with smaller grain?

I remember the ever-more complex fine grain developing regimes
and chemistry for the 35mm monochromes – toe of frog and eye of bat stuff. But
I have never seen anything that applies to the C 41 process.

Are there finer-grained films than the Kodak duo? Are there
finer developers? Advice, please.

               Uncle Dick
